Erec et Enide
Erec et Enide is the first Arthurian romance written by Chrétien de Troyes, and contains the earliest reference to Lancelot. Additionally, it is the first Arthurian romance in the genre of courtly love; however, it is not the oldest Arthurian romance. That honor belongs to the Welsh Culhwch and Olwen.
